Lily Campbell, from our partner clinic, Mink Hair & Beauty, was recently announced as a gold medallist at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in the Beauty Therapy category. This competition (held on the 6th, 7th & 8th of October at the Melbourne Showgrounds) saw the country’s best trainees and apprentices compete in an exciting 3 day competition. In preparation to compete, Lily trained between 8 – 12 hours per week over the last 12 months and increased this as the competition drew closer.
The Beauty Therapy category consisted of nail treatments, body treatments, makeup (masqureade theme & evening makeup), waxing, tinting and Lily’s favourite – an advanced facial treatment. Lily’s passion and experience shone through as she ranked first in the advanced facial treatment (as well as a few other components). Lily says that “my Corneotherapy knowledge and education has helped me achieve my success, as it has taught me how the skin should truly be treated, that is with integrity at all times. With this knowledge I find the best results for my clients skin in the treatment room and with their products at home. Derma Aesthetics has also helped to develop my knowledge on skin through their fantastic classes and opportunities to learn off the industry’s best”.
Christine Churchill, the Chief Judge of Beauty Therapy at the WorldSkills Competition, was thrilled with Lily’s performance and stated “Lily was a pleasure to watch throughout the competition. Her professionalism and positive attitude towards her work helped her maintain a consistent high level of skill performance throughout all her treatments during the competition. Nothing fazed Lily; whenever she was thrown a curve ball she maintained her composure and went on with the challenge, this is true professionalism that impressed the judges. She was a pleasure to watch throughout the competition. I wish Lily every success with her future endeavours and feel confident she will succeed in all she puts her hand to.”
Nicole Campbell, owner of Mink Hair & Beauty and Lily’s mother, is very proud of her success. “I have watched Lily’s growth from an apprentice to a diploma-qualified Beauty Therapist with pride. Her professionalism and dedication is an attribute to her. To achieve a Gold Medal in the WorldSkills competition is a just reward for Lily, as she has worked extremely hard during the course of her career. My pride is two-fold as I am privileged not only to be Lily’s employer but also her Mum.”
Lily’s mentor and Head Teacher of Beauty Therapy at TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, Naomi Zadow, also commented “I have been privileged to be Lily’s mentor and a part of her amazing journey so far. Lily excelled in the WorldSkills Competition to gain a Gold Medal for Australia with her end results being a tremendous 6 point win over second place (which is virtually unheard of!). I am confident that Lily will be a fantastic ambassador for Australia in the International Competition October 2017 in Abu Dhabi. I am excited to continue training with Lily in preparation for the next competition, she is such a beautiful person and her skills are amazing.”
Lily now has her eye on the gold at the WorldSkills International Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi in October 2017. To represent Australia at this competition as an Australian Skillaroo, Lily must be successful in a selection process. Lily described her journey so far as “one of the best experiences of my life. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support and mentoring of my beautiful family, the amazing corneotherapists and beauty therapists at Mink and my mentor, Naomi Zadow”.
Congratulations Lily, we at dermaviduals are very proud of all you have achieved and wish you all the best for the next competition!
