Introducing Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes! The newest addition to the derma family.

Posted: 16 March 2021 by Kai Atkinson

Why apply hyaluronic acid when you can teach your skin to MAKE its own?

With the newest addition to the dermaviduals family, Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes, you can become your own skin hydration making powerhouse!

What is it?

Hyaluronan = hyaluronic acid or HA

NAG = an acronym for the sugar molecule, N-acetyl glucosamine – your skins building block a precursor to hyaluronic synthesis

Liposomes = A specialised delivery system ensuring actives are driven to targeted cells. Liposomes will also replenishes the acid mantle, restores the skin’s barrier function while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

HA NAG is a naturally occurring, physiological compound that enhances the formation and production of our own hyaluronic acid (HA).

It’s an aqueous gel-like substance that improves the skin by supporting hydration levels thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Yes! NAG is the essential building-block your skin needs to CREATE your very own HA, as nature intended.

BUT! Not only is Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes able to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it can also visibly improve other skin conditions such as congestion, acne tarda (dry acne) and pigmentation!

By supporting cellular hydration levels, Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes encourages improved functioning of the stratum corneum and the neighbouring defence systems required to construct a healthy, glowing and dewy skin.

Why we love N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG):

  • It stimulates the internal formation of hyaluronic acid
  • Increases elasticity and moisture levels within the skin
  • Supports enzyme activity
  • Is great for improving acne tarda
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Has regenerative effects on and within the skin
  • Improves extracellular support for collagen and elastin
  • Plumping, smoothing and wrinkle reducing effects
  • Supports the stimulation of epithelialisation (wound healing)
  • Contains barrier lipids to prevent high TEWL
  • Tyrosinase inhibition, reducing the formation of melanin/pigmentation

How Does it Work?

Your skin contains enzymes that are like natural protein construction workers. These enzymes require free water to function well and are partly responsible for supporting the skin’s natural elimination process of redundant skin cells.

Enzymes dissolve the bonds that tether each corneocyte (skin cell) together, allowing them to shed away naturally – this is our skins process of exfoliation driven by free water within the skin. Think of enzymes like pac-man making their way through the maze or in this case, your stratum corneum, dislodging redundant corneocytes, to support skin cell rejuvenation.

When the skins water content reduces, these enzymes can no longer function and this pac-man like ability becomes impaired and unable to function at its best.

What does this mean?

Without free water and hydration in the skin, enzyme activity is impaired and can’t dislodge the corneocytes that have reached their “end-of-life.” These old cells then block the opening of the sebaceous follicles resulting in congestion and acne… (ah, no thanks!)

Hyaluronic acid (HA) together with NAG, can prevent this! These water-loving ingredients act like a big tall glass of water for your skin. They replenish fluid that’s lost throughout the day to keep the enzymes in our skin healthy and functioning as best as possible.

How does NAG support pigmentation?

NAG is made of glucosamine, a naturally occurring sugar that acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor. It can help slow down the production of melanin, preventing the development of brown spots (pigment).

Plus there’s more…

NAG will also support wound healing, providing structural support and integrity to your collagen and elastin; keeping these anti-ageing protein fibres cushioned, hydrated and protected… AH, YES PLEASE!

Interesting facts

We lose around 0.3% of our HA each day which puts strain on our collagen and elastin fibres. This results in the loss of structural support and integrity. Because our skin requires HA for many functions, we use a lot of it throughout the day, therefore daily application is recommended.

When Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes are applied, they form a semi-moisture-retaining film over the stratum corneum. This hydrating film has wrinkle-reducing and plumping effects… again, YES PLEASE!

Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes contain phosphatidylcholine (PC) and D-Panthenol (provitamin B5) to support the delivery of these active ingredients into the skin while at the same time, working as a skin cell regenerator.

The beauty of this serum is that Hyaluronan-NAG Liposomes also contains lipid rich, skin physiological ceramides and sebum-mimicking jojoba oil to slow the evaporation of water. This oil content helps to prevent trans-epidermal water loss and effectively secure the HA & NAG within the skin. The synergistic effects of oil and water work to create healthy, functioning and sustainable skin.
