Elderberry+Kate is nestled in the heart of Wellington city on the ground floor of the new Spark building on Willis Street. Their flagship sanctuary offers a new, holistic approach to experiencing a day spa in Wellington – where mind, body and appearance are pampered like nowhere else.
The decor is minimalist, incorporating marble walls and floating Elderberry plants throughout. Judith & Kate chatted to us about their unique approach to luxury and skin correction. “While setting up the business our vision was to cater for the men out there also, so we dedicated a treatment room specifically for the guys called ‘The Mancave’ where Timmy our staghead resides! We also designed a relaxation area – ‘The LivingRoom’ where clients could escape from the craziness of life and enjoy some peace prior to their treatments. The feedback has been so positive and clients enjoy our little treats while waiting to be nurtured.”
“Our name brings together the superpower of the Elderberry, a nod to our passion for natural beauty therapy that nourishes from the inside, out; and binds it with Kate’s unrivalled experience + love for simple luxury. Our team are passionate about skin health and our focus as a team is on education, delivering exceptional treatments while having fun at the same time!”
What keeps you inspired professionally?
“Our clients inspire us daily; we always strive to deliver the best that we can. We both came from an educational background, Kate was the Wellington Elite Campus Manager for several years and Jude was a Beauty Therapy tutor there also. In that field, we could see what was required to deliver exceptional new graduates and we aim to keep those standards in this capacity also. Like a lot of therapists and professionals in our industry we are perfectionists and have very high standards. We feel this comes across from the moment our clients walk through our doors.”
What do you value the most in your business?
“Having amazing passionate staff who can share and deliver the same vision as Kate and Jude. Not only for providing exceptional treatments but also going the extra mile and providing those little touches to make our clients visit more memorable.”
How has dermaviduals assisted your business?
“Our plan whilst setting up the business was to have a bespoke approach to our skin treatments and dermaviduals has been the ideal fit in this regard. We also required our skincare line to be natural and deliver wellness to the skin… something which is the backbone of dermaviduals also. dermaviduals’ attention to education has been outstanding and again this was something that we required when looking for the ideal skincare for our spa. Our clients have also been blown away with the outstanding results dermaviduals skincare delivers and this has taken our business to the next level in a very short period of time. The support dermaviduals has provided has been outstanding from the concept of the business right through to the present.”
What is your favourite dermaviduals product and why?
“We love Liposome Concentrate Plus as a team as it delivers such amazing results for both ourselves individually and for our clients. However, Jude is a big fan of DMS Mask with Vitamins (Jude: I wake up each morning with my skin feeling so well nourished, soft, smooth and even toned!).
What is your number one skincare tip?
“It would have to be to stay out of the sun! Otherwise protect it as best you can. Coming to New Zealand 14 years ago and going from working on Celtic skin versus New Zealand sun-exposed skin, I could see first-hand the damage the sun can do to your skin. I consistently use dermaviduals’ SPF 30 throughout the day on my face, neck and chest without fail.”
New products and equipment enter the beauty industry almost daily. How do you keep up with this and how do you determine what is hype and what is genuine.
“We align ourselves with reputable and trusted industry professionals and refer to them for advice if needed. However, we constantly go back to our business plan and our core values to ensure that whatever decision we need to make, be it a new product or equipment, for example, is in line with our business concept.”
