Meet Our Clinic Of The Month, Inspiring Skin Health

Tell us about your clinic, staff and local area.
I started Inspiring Skin Health to create change. After working in the beauty therapy industry for many years, I saw a real need for a holistic approach to skin in favour of fads. I resolved to treat skin differently, and to help others to understand their skin – this mission has guided everything we’ve done for the past 13 years.

Our team is deliberately small (just four!) and we all bring specific, niche skills in dermal science, nutrition, skin therapy, even meditation. Being located just off the beaten track in Rosalie Village in Brisbane is great – the sense of community and village-feel means we’ve built wonderful local relationships over the years. That said, we still have clients who have travelled from as far away as Melbourne to get their fix with us!

 

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I love seeing the results, it’s a reminder that everyone’s skin is unique. I look at skin a little differently; it’s not just about the surface. It’s understanding and knowing that sometimes a client’s skin is often a reflection of what’s going on inside. I’m fascinated by the gut-brain-skin connection and learning about the science of skin will always be a huge thrill to me.

What is your personal mantra?
Beauty begins within. You can spend a fortune on makeup to try to recreate that instant glow, or you can look at your skin holistically. Support your skin barrier and gut health with rest, hydration, wholefoods, intentional treatments, and a simple selection of high-quality skincare. With the understanding and expertise of the right skin therapist, the rest will take care of itself.

How has dermaviduals assisted your business?
It’s the cornerstone of our skin therapy. We are incredibly choosy about what brands we work with and dermaviduals ticks all the boxes. From the ingredients to the efficacy, quality, innovation, and manufacturing standards: there’s nothing like it for its effectiveness. It’s the opposite of generic skincare and fits so well with our ethos.

 

What is your favourite dermaviduals product and why?
Right now, Lotion N because it’s such a clever product – it’s like an essential fatty acid for the skin that you can’t necessarily achieve through nutrition alone. This product makes a huge difference to the skin (including my own) especially if it’s dry. It’s a year-round essential but remarkably helpful right now in the cooler weather.

What is your number one skincare tip, especially during the recent ISO period?
Less is more. Don’t be tempted by marketing – go for fewer, high-quality products from the same range rather than a self-assembled shelf of dozens of different cheaper products which won’t necessarily work in tandem.

Plus, hydrate! For many people, isolation has disrupted their usual skincare and nutrition routines. Get back to absolute basics and make sure you’re drinking enough water. It boosts your energy, improves cellular regeneration, mood and hunger response – all of which have a circular effect back to glowing skin.

What sets your clinic/treatments apart?
Our team. We each have a unique set of specific skills to add another dimension to our services, whether it’s in nutritional therapy, dermal science, corrective treatments, or mental wellbeing. Like the pieces of a puzzle, we all fit together to provide our clients with an experience that’s a big step further than a traditional clinic.

 

How have you managed your business through this recent period of Covid-19 Lockdown?
We saw it as a reminder that our clinic is more than just our physical premises. We are part of a community of people who take what they experience in our clinic and apply that knowledge at home. We reframed and saw it as an exciting opportunity to create new to be helpful and useful, beyond the four walls of a business.

It really all comes down to putting your clients first – we’ve never been about a hard sell. This was a time to really appreciate the value we can bring through our services, content, and products – and springboard from it. We implemented a number of new developments but perhaps the most successful was our DIY home facial kits. They took a great deal of time to conceptualise and are a wonderful creative outlet for us, too. COVID-19 has shone the spotlight on the importance of ‘reading the room’, showing empathy, and putting your client’s mindset and needs first. Despite being a challenging time there have been gifts from this experience – and we appreciate them all.
