Meet Team Derma’s Rebecca

Posted: 20 December 2019 by Annemarie O'Donnell

What do you do at Derma Aesthetics?

“I am the Northern New South Wales Sales Consultant.” 🙂

What’s your favourite part of your job?

“I love so many things about my job but by far my favourite is looking after my clinics. Nothing makes me happier at work than hearing my clinics feel supported by me. I love watching them grow and learn. I often say that when I see my clinics doing well that this must be what it feels like to be a proud mother! I love it!” ❤️

Who is your biggest inspiration?

“Oh, that’s a hard one for me. As a whole, my family are all inspiring to me in their own way but if I had to pick one, it would have to be my Mum (I’m a total mummy’s girl!). She has made so many sacrifices for my brothers and I. She constantly reminds us with her words and actions how much she loves us unconditionally. You can’t ask for much for than that – to be showered in love your whole life is the greatest gift. I also feel like I have to give a special shout out to my partner, Luke (see, I cant pick just one! 🤦🏼‍♀️). He pushes me to be the best version of myself everyday! I’m incredibly lucky to have so many people that love me and inspire me!” 😄

What’s a charity that you love to support?

“This is another hard one to pick! Can you tell I’m Libran and am super indecisive?! 😫 I’ll have to say the Ovarian Cancer Foundation. I recently had a fundraiser for my birthday to raise money for ovarian cancer research as my way of honouring my Grandma who passed away on Mother’s Day this year. She was a massive part of my life who, along side my Mum, had helped raise me.

Ovarian cancer is commonly referred to as “the silent cancer”
Some ovarian cancer symptoms are:

  • abdominal or pelvic pain, pressure or discomfort
  • increased abdominal size
  • excessive fatigue or lethargy
  • indigestion
  • unexplained weight loss or gain
  • irregular periods

As you may be able to tell, these symptoms could also be from something much less serious than ovarian cancer, so a lot of people don’t investigate further. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is 5 years because these symptoms can go ignored for so long or can be misdiagnosed. The Ovarian Cancer Foundation strives to:

  • provide hope and personalised treatment options aimed at extending the lives of women currently fighting ovarian cancer
  • aim to develop a non-invasive, accessible and reliable early detection test that will save women’s lives, shifting five-year ovarian cancer survival rates from 45% to 90–100%
  • are focused on prevention and cure so that women in the future will live without any threat of ovarian cancer”

Sweet or savoury?

“Definitely sweet. I have one of the biggest sweet tooths of anyone I’ve ever met!”

Mantra you live by?

“Love the people you love as hard as you can, for as long as you can.” ❤️
