Nourish is a boutique clinic set in a beautiful art deco building on The Terrace in Wellington. Owner, Leesa, specialises in complex skin conditions. Having an autoimmune condition herself, Leesa knows how painful and distressing it can be to have sensitive, reactive skin. Not only can a health condition affect your skin, but the medications, and even the foods you eat, can make you react. “I work to reduce inflammation both internally and externally, whatever the condition may be.” With a background in communications, Leesa can really relate to her clients. She also has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Philosophy, and loves using her research skills to support clients in finding the latest information available on their condition.
The noticeable point of difference of Nourish is the continual investment in education both for Leesa and her clients. “I’m off to Australia next month to attend the Australasian Anti-Ageing and Aesthetic Medicine Conference, and complete my second module in Anti-Ageing Medicine Certification. This programme focuses on the early detection, prevention, treatment and reversal of age-related dysfunction, disorders and disease. Following this, I’ll be completing my final module to become a Pastiche Professional Skin Diagnostician.
What keeps you inspired professionally? “I’m inspired by the results I see my clients achieve, by the post-graduate training I undertake, and by my clients themselves. Many of my clients have seen so many people and tried so many products before they find me. Tears are not uncommon when they tell me what they’ve been through. Their skin has been over-treated with aggressive treatments and is inflamed and incredibly sensitive. I’m able to transform their skin using a simple home care routine, lifestyle changes and nutritional support.”
“I value the relationships with my clients – seeing the transformations they achieve really makes me happy. I also value the relationship with my Business Development Manager, Danielle Beyleveld. She understands my business and what I love.”
“dermaviduals has enabled me to treat skin conditions that I would not have been able to treat before. As the products are free of fragrances, emulsifiers, colours, mineral oils and preservatives, I’m able to treat even the most sensitive of skins. Whether it’s acne, rosacea, seborrhoeic dermatitis, premature ageing or something else, dermaviduals enables me to create products for each individual client. dermaviduals has provided excellent training and education opportunities that have expanded my knowledge and helped me grow as a therapist.”
What is your favourite dermaviduals product and why? “It has to be Oleogel Plus. Last week I had a horrible lurgy, and the skin under my nose was so sore from all tissues I went through. Oleogel Plus was so soothing on the area – I can see why it’s recommended for nappy rash! When I have an arthritis flare, my skin flares too – it’s so true that our skin tells us what’s going on inside. When this happens I use Oleogel Plus as my moisturiser, as it calms, taking the heat out of my skin.”
What is your number one skin care tip? “Drink more water! Most people simply do not drink enough water. Water is the primary catalyst for enzyme activity in the skin, it plumps up skin, and reduces inflammation and pain. If clients are looking for results, this is the place to start.”
New products and equipment enter the beauty industry almost daily. How do you keep up with this and how do you determine what is hype and what is genuine? As a skin professional, I believe it’s important to work within our scope of practice. I offer advice as it relates to the skin, and refer clients to a range of professional, qualified experts as needed. This enables me to focus on my strengths, passions and clients’ needs. When it comes to new products, there will always be that latest marketing splash that promises a quick fix. I’m in it for the long haul though. dermaviduals offers products that can be used right throughout your lifetime. I have clients in their 70’s that love the changes dermaviduals has brought about in their skin.”
