All of us would like to live a more healthy life, to look better, and to live well both physically and spiritually.
Living well is a shared dream for all of us. Even for one day, ask yourself: “How can I live a healthier and better life?”.
The main aims of Global Wellness Day (GWD) are:
- To recognize the value of our lives
- To pause and think, even if for just one day of the year
- To be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits
- To make peace with ourselves
- To raise awareness about living well and increase motivation, not just for today, but for the remaining 364 days of the year
Global Wellness Day is an entirely not-for-profit day, a social project dedicated to living well. Global Wellness Day will be celebrated on today, Saturday, June 12th, 2021.
I like this approach to progressing towards living well, that GWD suggest, and that is to let their manifesto be your starting point.

You may like to ask yourself these questions –
What is my relationship to food? To my body? To my skin? How could these relationships be healthier, more fulfilling, more loving?
When I am stressed and start seeking comfort food, would I be willing to stop, breathe, and ask myself what is it that is actually hungry; to be seen, heard and valued, that needs to be fed with my own awareness and be emotionally nurtured? And if I do indulge, could I be open to making that an empowering choice, rather than one that feeds a cycle of guilt and shame?
Could I choose more listening, more going within?
Our body is a master biofeedback and energy system and has a full range of signalling it shares with us every single moment. Can I tune into my innate wisdom and intuition? What do I hear or feel?
Could I choose fewer labels, packages, boxes and bags, and more real food in its most natural, unaltered, unprocessed and unrefined forms?
The more food that we eat that has come as freshly as possible from Mother Earth will support and nurture and nourish us the most. And as Errick McAdams so cleverly noted, “If you keep good food in your fridge, you will eat good food.”
Could I tune in to my appreciation and gratitude for the miracle of the food I have in front of me, food that has been grown with the energy of our planet, the sun, moon, wind and rain, nourished from the soil and soil microbiomes, and then prepared for me to purchase and prepare for eating? What a blessing to be so energetically connected to life. So abundant!
Whether we choose to eat a vegetarian, vegan, omnivore, pescatarian, paleo or other diet, the most important thing is to choose what is right for us in that moment, whilst being receptive to our continued self-awareness and flexibility of aligning to our needs, even within the dynamic chaos of life.
The simplest guide for building a healthy, ‘aligned to you’ meal is to stop, breathe, tune in to your body, check in with what you are choosing and why, and create your meal intentionally from that space.
The aim is to fill almost half of your plate with a variety of vegetables, a little fruit, one quarter with whole grains, and one quarter with a lean or plant source of protein. Healthy fats could be included with the protein in the form of nuts, seeds, eggs, or as dressing for our veggies and grain as dressings and cooking oils. These fats are equally as important as the other nutrients that fill our plates. Eating well-washed seasonal and organic foods is always my preference.
You may like to bless your eating companions, as well as your food and its journey to your plate, to eat with intention, to consider the energy – the tribe we have, the food and drink we bring into our body fuels our health, healing, and consciousness. Food is the most intimate and direct connection we have with Mother Earth/nature – talk to your food, love it with reverence!
I talk to my food and my supplements, and my skincare, and my water, with a huge level of gratitude and appreciation. These small habits of gratitude will change the way that you are interacting with the world, and your body, over time, I suggest you do not underestimate their power 🙂
As part of your food awareness, you may like to play with Intermittent Fasting. There is a huge amount of research behind this, and my preference is to eat at 8am, 12:30pm and 4:30/5pm, although there are many different styles. Intermittent Fasting has been shown to have a substantial impact on improving wellness by remodelling our gut microbiome, synchronising internal diurnal rhythms, improving metabolic health and decreasing inflammation. Fasting during prolonged evening periods gives the gut the time it needs to heal and restore its integrity. This is especially important for “leaky gut”, also called intestinal permeability, where the gut lining is weakened thereby allowing toxins, partially digested foods, and pathogens to enter the bloodstream and affect the liver as well as the rest of your body.
Where we can all grow is from listening to what foods make us feel good, which positively affect our energy levels, and devote some time, love and attention to our body and our choices for it. One way to connect to this is to keep a diary for a week, and from waking to sleeping track your emotions, your stress levels, your food choices, your body responses to food, and notice if any patterns emerge throughout the week. Pay attention to habits that aren’t nourishing your body in a way that supports the life that you desire, and then connect to the support and resources you need to establish routines that are simple, realistic, and liveable.
Each decision to listen to our own rhythms, to bring awareness to empowering beliefs and their habits, will bring more vital energy to our body to support the growth and regeneration of all our cells, tissues and organ systems, whilst also fuelling our mind and emotions.
What are my final words on this topic? If you know your current diet, lifestyle and state of being isn’t creating the kind of skin health, well-being, happiness and fulfilment that you want, then you don’t need to be told WHAT to change.
It’s time to commit to a long-term success path of WHY you want to change, and then learn the HOW of changing your beliefs, subconscious thoughts and habitual behaviours to truly create the most powerfully unique to you, best ever, skin diet!
