Your Facialist, your new best friend!

Posted: 22 January 2021 by Lisa Paone

Well what a year that turned out to be! Who would have thought that 2020 would have looked the way it did? Who would have thought that for the majority of the year we would have been trapped in our homes and unable to move out of a 5km radius or be separated from family and friends for what seemed like a lifetime? It all seems like a crazy dream!

With the events of 2020 affecting each of us in so many different ways, the beginning of 2021 welcomes a positive reset element and time for many of us to take back the reins and get back into some sort of routine. This is where your facialist and all of the magic they can create not only for your skin but for your psyche, comes into play!

During the depths of Covid-19 and in sheer desperation, many of us attempted to try our hand at creating the ‘ultimate skin experience’ at home – by performing a treatment on ourselves. What many of us have come to find after said ‘ultimate skin treatment’, is that sometimes you just want to treat yourself (or someone else wants to treat you) to a facial in an actual clinic setting, performed by an actual skin expert. This is why it is so important to choose a facialist you can trust so that they can take the correct care of your skin and have you floating on air, not just during your treatment but for hours afterwards.

So, just what can your facialist do for you that you can not do for yourself? Lets take a look at how and why your facialist will become your new best friend –

1. Consultation – One of the most important components of your skin treatment, whether it be a gifted treatment or a regular one, is a thorough and effective consultation! We have all been in that position before and thought ‘Why on earth do they need to know that?’ or ‘why are these questions so invasive!’. Remember, that your consultation and the questions that are asked of you, is simply an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, concerns, questions and everything else with your facialist who will then be in the best position to treat your skin and provide the right home care advice. This can be the start of a great relationship with your facialist, so be as open and honest as possible.

2. Education – During your consultation, your facialist will be providing you with information and pieces of education – So be sure to listen up! As a facialist myself, I have always loved the opportunity to share with my clients what they need to know about their skin so that we can work together to attain the best results possible. Your facialist has spent years studying the skin and its function, so of course they are going to be the best person to listen to. Ask questions, share your thoughts and work together to become more educated in how your skin functions, and what you can do to make it work better for you!

3. Treatment OptionsAhh, the treatment! I just want to lay down now and have someone pamper me! From a bespoke express treatment that is curated just for you and your skin needs on that particular day, all the way through to an advanced and modality based treatment (think LED and Skin Needling) your facialist is in the driving seat to be able to guide you to what will serve your skins needs best. Your facialist will be in the best position to recommend how to treat your concerns and what your treatment series may look like. Depending on your concerns, this might be a once off treatment or perhaps a series of treatments that are adapted each time to really help you achieve your best skin ever!

4. Home Care – Now this really is one of the most important components of your relationship with your facialist – trusting your facialist and their recommendation for your skin. As nice as it would be to visit your facialist on a regular basis, sometimes it is just not possible – whether that be due to time management or financial constraints, this is where your home care prescription will come into play. By utilising the products that have been professionally recommended for you and your concerns at home, you are able to maintain your results in between your in-clinic visits. Ideally, your facialist will be working with products that are free from non physiological ingredients such as – fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, colours, mineral oils and silicones. This is where dermaviduals can help. Free from all of those nasty ingredients and packed full of ingredients to promote skin health, dermaviduals really is a game changer!

One thing that Covid-19 has shown us is that there are no quick fixes in anything, and finding the perfect facialist, is no exception. Your facialist should paint a picture of how you can achieve your skincare goals with a variety of methods, to guide you in the right direction.

Look for a facialist who’s willing to provide you with a comprehensive road map to achieving your skincare goals – It’s all about you!

You wouldn’t accept a one-size-fits-all exercise program, so why should your skincare choices be any different?

Next time you’re planning a visit to your local clinic, ensure that your chosen facialist provides skincare solutions that are as individual as you are. Their knowledge and dedication will go a long way to helping you achieve the radiant, glowing complexion you’re striving for.
